Ubuntu in robotics competition in Spain

Today took place the CRUO, one of the main Robotics competitions in Spain, organized by the University of Oviedo. Among the different categories one can find the fastest line following robots and the strongest Sumo robots up to 3kg weight. More than 20 robot builders from all over Spain attended the third edition of CRUO and, as I expected, Ubuntu was also there! For example, the uXbot robot (an educational robotic project started by two Spanish young engineers) includes a whole set of Open Source tools and libraries and was programming from Ubuntu via Bluetooth before the races!

The event throughout the day was awesome! The install was in Fnac a big store in Europe. A lot of people wanted to free his computer and a lot of information, and for the first time, people wanted update their Ubuntu

TuxFamily is really wonderful for FLOSS projects, free, a lot of services and great helpful staff. And now, they need 4.000€. The goal of the TuxFamily non-profit organization is to create, promote and publish free contents: free software, free art, documentation… Founded in 2004. TuxFamily.org needs money to live. Donations make it possible to maintain the platform, and invest for future developments.

Since the re-opening in 2005, Our family never stopped growing. Today, almost 3000 users and 2400 projects are registred on our services.
TuxFamily’s success seems to be real and we will try to continue improving our service as hard as we can so it can be as good as you need high avalibity, new services (like git, mercurial and cron jobs this past year)…

This success is great but not as free as you can imagine. A free hosting service, run by a non profit organization has to be supported by donations in order to stay alive and keep growing. For example, our Web servers are becoming too old and a bit rusty. Their load increases every week and will become critical in a few months. We have to replace them as soon as possible to keep our services as fast as they should be.

This is the reason why TuxFamily.org is now starting a donation campaign. We have to buy some new hardware[0] and the estimated bill is around 4000 euros. With more than 3000 users and the tremendous number of visitors using our hosted websites, this has to be possible!
